After making his debut more than 20 years ago in Double Dragon, everyone's favorite lumpy mutant/muscleman Abobo has finally earned a starring role in his own video game.
This trailer for the upcoming Abobo's Big Adventure shows a keen understanding of what makes NES games so appealing and memorable. After starting out in Double Dragon, Abobo soon invades familiar levels from The Legend of Zelda, Contra, Mega Man 2, and other classics. Better still, each stage is packed with inside jokes that NES fans will appreciate -- I enjoyed the sly Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reference during the Super Mario Bros. swimming level, personally.
Abobo's Big Adventure will premiere later this year as a free-to-play Flash game. A chunk of gameplay footage from the Contra sequence can be seen after the break.
