Celebrating Sonic the Hedgehog's 20th anniversary (and the upcoming release of Sonic Generations), Sega of America announced that it's helping design and build a custom playground inspired by its blue mascot in East Oakland, California.

The publisher is working with local "neighbohood hub" Youth UpRising and outdoor play non-profit KaBOOM on the project -- children in the area will also assist with designing the playground, which will serve over 400 local kids.

Sega volunteers and members of East Oakland community will gather on October 28th to construct the playground in a single day, and it will formally open on November 1st, when Sonic Generations launches in the U.S.
