IGN Shutters Parent-Focused Gaming Content Resource What They Play
October 21, 2011 3:00 AM | Danny Cowan
After nearly four years of operation, parent-oriented video game content resource What They Play has suddenly closed, with all links to the site's domain now redirecting to IGN's front page.
The closure comes as a surprise to What They Play's staff, though the site has not been updated since February. Head of marketing Tom Byron was apparently offered no warning or explanation prior to the closure, noting in a Facebook update that "IGN has quietly taken it down and replaced it with...IGN."
What They Play was founded in 2007, and was acquired by IGN parent News Corporation in 2009. Prior to its closure, the site documented content in more than 16,000 games, and was recommended by major retailers including Wal-Mart and Best Buy.

What do you mean by "What They Play's Staff"? Did a website that hadn't put out new content in 8 months really have a dedicated staff? Are you referring to IGN staff? Or are you referring to the guys who founded the site? Byron is currently employed by LiveJournal, so you should really be referring to him as "former staff".
