Atari quietly unveiled the Atari Arcade - Duo Powered Joystick yesterday, an iPad base with arcade-style controls. It doesn't look nearly as nice as the ThinkGeek's bigger, eight-button iCade cabinet, but it's probably a lot cheaper than that $100 setup.
The company teamed up with Discovery Bay Games to create the accessory, promising support for its Atari’s Greatest Hits iOS app (the classic Atari/arcade game emulator was one of the first titles tos upport ThingGeek's iCade controls).
"There’s significant opportunity to add more value and take Atari’s Greatest Hits’ app to an entirely new level with an analog controller, and we’ve turned to Discovery Bay Games to do exactly that,” says Atari's Licensing SVP Lee Jacobson.
Jacobson adds, "The controller will deliver a true mobile arcade experience, complimenting classic titles including Centipede or Asteroids." The company has not yet announced pricing or a release date for the Atari Arcade - Duo Powered joystick.
