"It's that time again, I'm about to birth another boy... but this one has skin." That's how Edmund McMillen (Super Meat Boy) began an email blast sent out this morning about the first trailer for The Binding of Isaac, his upcoming game developed with Florian Himsl.

Just as strange as Super Meat Boy's concept, though perhaps a little darker, The Binding of Isaac focuses on a frightened child who escapes to his house's basement after his mom "starts hearing the voice of God demanding a sacrifice be made to prove her faith".

That basement setting gives us "a randomly generated action RPG shooter with heavy roguelike elements" (it looks a lot like Smash TV/Robotron), where Isaac will fight "droves of deranged enemies, lost brothers and sisters, his fears, and eventually his mother."

The Binding of Isaac will release on Steam for Windows and Mac in mid September for $5.
