Released just today on the iTunes app store is Ringo, a new game by Tokyo-based VJ m7kenji. As Nobuooo points out, he's done visuals for Blip Festival Tokyo and Cheapbeats chip shindigs, among other things.
Ringo is fairly simple; there's nothing out to get you, nor any intense obstacles to overcome. Just help the little guy in green gather apples, that's it. The game as a whole is actually quite sparse, and the total lack of context is what makes it so compelling.
The pitch-black background that's lit up by an intimidating assortment of pixels, the apple that looks comparatively out of place, and random bits of Japanese text (especially since I don't know what's being said) all lends itself to a surprisingly atmospheric experience.
Check it out for yourself, especially since it's totally free.
