Sega has released a Sonic the Hedgehog series-spanning retrospective video promoting the upcoming Sonic Generations, and in doing so, has highlighted what it considers to be the franchise's most noteworthy titles among dozens of releases. More importantly, it doesn't list the Sonic games that it seemingly wants to forget.

The original Genesis games are represented, and the underrated Sonic CD is also given a surprise mention -- a good start! The casual dismissal of Knuckles Chaotix is probably for the best, as well.

Somewhere around the halfway point, things get a little iffy. The mediocre Sonic Heroes and the beyond-terrible Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 are given equal screentime alongside more well-regarded games like Sonic Adventure and Sonic Colors.

Fortunately, Shadow the Hedgehog is entirely absent, though the omission of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is curious, given the heavy promotion it received leading up to its release. It's an interesting lineup, for sure, and it hints at what elements Sega considers important for the oft-criticized series.
