Nintendo: Using Flash Carts 'May Lead to Injury to Yourself or Others'

Nintendo issued a sinister-sounding warning with the latest 3DS firmware upgrade, cautioning its customers that the use of unauthorized devices like flash cartridges may cause grievous bodily harm.
"Please note that the Nintendo warranties do not cover any defects to or defects caused by unauthorized devices, software, modifications and/or non-licensed accessories," Nintendo states. "Furthermore such use may lead to injury to yourself or others and may cause performance issues and/or damage to your Nintendo 3DS system and related services."
Piracy via flash carts has long been an issue for Nintendo's portable systems, but this is the first time I've seen the company go so far as to suggest that they can cause personal injury. I suppose that such a thing is possible -- some hooligan could potentially develop a homebrew application that totally destroys your eyes with harmful 3D effects. I've heard of DS homebrew apps bricking hardware before, but dang, man. Dang.

As much as I hate the 3DS and love flash cartridges, I think it just means the use of non-Nintendo peripherals (or just non-licensed ones) such as styluses/styli (take your pick for the plural) or bigger things like that humongous guitar hero thing. Non-ergonomic stuff could cause strain and the victim would end up suing using that backwards legalese logic.
The rest is just a disclaimer, I guess...

They put their seal of approval on 'authorized' peripherals. All electronics need to be tested for safety - if electricity passes through it, it needs to be controlled and insulated, and if it contains circuitry, it needs to not leak harmful materials, melt, etc.
They're just saying they haven't tested any of this 'unauthorized' stuff for that, and for all you know some idiot made this cart in his basement and it's not up-to-snuff.
Of course, 99% of the time, that isn't true, but they're more than willing to scare you if it means you don't buy any more flash carts :)
