One of the more notable releases in the Amiga's massive software library, the vertically scrolling shooter Battle Squadron, has been ported to the iPhone and iPad by its original developer Cope-com.

Battle Squadron was well-received upon its debut for Amiga computers in 1989, offering shoot-'em-up gameplay that rivaled the arcade's best efforts at the time. The game is also notable for its catchy background music, which certainly must rank as one of the most-remixed Amiga soundtracks ever. A Genesis version followed in 1990, ported by Electronic Arts.

Amiga fanatics should also note that Shadow of the Beast and IK+ could soon join Battle Squadron in the App Store -- developer Manomio is currently working on an Amiga compilation in the style of its Commodore 64 emulator app, though a release date has not yet been announced.
