Are you horrified when publishers, for whatever reason, decide to promote their retro compilations and remakes with screenshots of blurry, filtered sprites? Can you identify individual sound effects that are not emulated correctly in recent ports of Sonic the Hedgehog? If so, you may be pleased to know that Treasure is taking great pains to make the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade version of its revered shoot-'em-up Radiant Silvergun look just as ugly as the arcade and Saturn original.

Speaking to Famitsu (and translated by Andriasang), Treasure CEO Masato Maegawa confirms that players can opt out of the port's updated visuals in a "low res" mode, which offers Saturn-era jagged polygons and mesh transparencies, as seen in the arcade screenshot above.

The game's in good hands, in other words -- if so much attention is being paid to transparency effects, I'd assume (or at least hope) that the underlying gameplay is equally faithful. In addition to a graphical makeover, the XBLA version of Radiant Silvergun will also feature online co-op and a new Ikaruga-styled gameplay mode when it premieres later this year.
