The next piece of the PixelJunk legacy is on its way to the PlayStation Network -- PixelJunk Sidescroller, a side-scrolling shooter in the vein of classics like R-Type and Gradius, but with a slick Vector artstyle and PixelJunk Shooter's water physics.

Despite its appearances, it claims to be more puzzle like in nature. As noted in the press release, players attempt to change the terrain and environment around them to progress. It takes strategy, planning and addictive replay to succeed.

CtrlAltKill grabbed the first known footage of the game in action, but don't mind the curved screens either -- they seem to be embedded into the games' design, giving an even more retro feel.

Sidescroller should be available by the end of 2011 for the PlayStation Network.

Side note: This should have totally been called PixelJunk Shooter, and Shooter be called Elements. Oh Cuthbert, you silly billy!
