110606_minecraft360.jpgIn a brief mention at its E3 press conference on Monday, Microsoft announced that Mojang's indie smash-hit Minecraft will arrive on the Xbox 360 this winter with Kinect support.

It was also revealed that the PC and Xbox 360 versions of Minecraft will be cross-compatible, presumably for world sharing and cooperative multiplayer. No further details were announced, and it was not clear if the Kinect peripheral will be a required or optional part of the console Minecraft experience.

The Xbox 360's audience certainly has a demand for a console version of Minecraft; the clone title FortressCraft is currently the top-selling game on the Xbox Live Indie Games service. It's unknown if FortressCraft will continue to be sold alongside its more fleshed-out inspiration after Minecraft's console debut later this year.
