2D Boy just announced that it's submitted a new iPhoned version of World of Goo, the delightful puzzler that won multiple Independent Games Festival awards for Design Innovation and Technical Excellence several years ago, to the App Store, and it expects the game to release "soonish".

When it hits, the iPhone edition will feature a discounted price of $0.99 for the first 24 hours, rising to $2.99 afterward. 2D Boy also decided to make the iPad version of the game a universal app, allowing early adopters who bought the HD edition to essentially get the iPhone version for free.

The developer notes that the game will require an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 (and likely third generation or higher iPod Touches) to run. If you've got neither of those, you can always grab World of Goo on WiiWare, Windows, Mac, and Linux -- though those versions won't be as cheap as $0.99.
