UK-based developer Rebellion (Aliens vs Predator, Rogue Trooper) announced that it's working Sniper Elite V2, a sequel to its TIGA-award winning "third-person tactical WWII shooter", coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next year courtesy of publisher 5050 Games.

The original Sniper Elite released in 2005, in which players took on the role of "an American OSS secret agent disguised as a German sniper in Berlin during the final days of World War II", was praised for its emphasis on stealth and patience -- a refreshing alternative to the straightforward and fast-paced action in typical shooters.

"It’s very exciting to be working with one of the new breed of major publishers like 505 Games," said Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion. "Sniper Elite was an important, genre-defining property and we’re hoping to have even greater success by teaming up with the talented guys at 505."

Rebellion hasn't disclosed much about new features or other details about Sniper Elite V2, but it shared this first screenshot of the newly announced game.
