Independent developer Spiderweb Software, maker of fine PC RPGs like the Avernum and Geneforge RPG series, has launched Avadon: The Black Fortress, the first chapter of what promises to be a new and original epic fantasy saga.

In the turn-based 2D isometric title, players "serve the keep of Avadon, working as a spy and warrior to fight the enemies of [their] homeland" while battling a conspiracy that threatens to destroy their people.

Avadon features four different character classes (each with dozens of unique spells and abilities), "many" different endings, hundreds of magical items, and dozens of side quests, hidden dungeons, and secrets.

The game is only available for Mac for $25, but a PC edition is planned for this spring. You can download a demo for Avadon: The Black Fortress at Spiderweb Software's site.
