Voxatron: Robotron With Voxels

Indie developer Lexaloffle Games, which also produced Sense of Wonder Night 2009 finalist Swarm Racer, uploaded this trailer for Voxatron, a Robotron-style arena shooter presented with voxels -- those cubes that made up the characters and world of last year's 3D Dot Game Heroes.
The game has players shooting enemies and jumping across platforms in a smal set of arenas, some of which feature "set action pieces, somewhere between Knightlore and Smash TV". Lexaloffle describes it as "a simple game at heart -- mostly just Robotron set in a 3d destructible world with goofy creatures."
"I'm unsure how major the implications of destructibility will be for gameplay, but it sure is fun to blast away pieces of wall. I've also added an experimental wall-building pickup you can use to construct barriers to hide from scary monsters," adds the studio's Joseph White.
Voxatron is scheduled to release for Windows and Mac this autumn, and will also feature playback and post-game recording, a build-in sound and music synthesizer (used in above trailer's music), and custom software rendering with soft shadows. Lexaloffle intends to put out a single-arena preview soon.
