Highlighting the chiptune soundtrack in its upcoming WiiWare/XBLA game Retro City Rampage -- as it should, considering the title picked up an "Excellence in Audio" nomination for this year's Independent Games Festival awards -- developer Vblank Entertainment is holding a music remix contest for fans.

The studio is inviting fans to remix Retro City Rampage's theme song (listen above), which was created by chiptune notable and WayForward composer/sound designer Jake "Virt" Kaufman, whose music has graced the soundtracks of games like Red Faction: Guerrilla, Contra 4, and the Shantae series.

Vblank intends to reward winners with a signed and boxed faux NES retro City Rampage cartridge case and Retro City Rampage cartridge labels (for sticking onto an NES cart). It will also post all the entries it receives online. You can download Virt's source tracks and learn more about the competition here.
