Indie developer Stout Games (Jeroen Stout) has unveiled a unique experience coming to PCs next month: Dinner Date, an first-person game in which players inhabit the subconsciousness of Julian Luxemburg and are privy to his thoughts as he waits in his kitchen/dining room for his date to arrive.

Stout explains the setup, which he compares to other experimental titles like Tale of Tales' IGF 2009 award finalist The Graveyard:

"Dinner Date is the portrait of Julian: from his desires and doubts to reflections on his friends and his place in the world. You are not merely witnessing - by interacting with Julian and his world you gain a clear vantage point on his life.

The wait for the beautiful girl he invited over becomes longer and she becomes the dominant factor in his thoughts. And yet his true problems may not even begin with the girl: what of his work, of his boss, the headhunter, his fascination of Byron and his friendship with Jerry, who had been pushing Julian to take on this date?"

As players witness Julian's nervous actions like tapping the table and checking the clock, they'll also hear the sort of "intimate thoughts someone being stood up would not readily tell his friends", all fully voiced and accompanied by a score composed specifically for Dinner Date.

Stout expects to release the game on November 17th for $12.45, thought it will begin taking preorders on November 3rd at a reduced price of $9.95. You can find out more about the title at Dinner Date's official site.
