Penny Arcade and 2 Player Productions -- the team behind chip music documentary Reformat the Planet and the Penny Arcade TV series -- have released a giant six-DVD set collecting more than 10 hours of footage from Penny Arcade Expo 2009.

The DVD features various conference highlights like LucasArts legend Ron Gilbert's keynote, complete documentaries for Omegathon 2009 and "The PAX Experience", and several panels like "Q&A with Gabe & Tycho", "Drawing the Comic", and "Wil Wheaton Awesome Hour". The pilot episode from the webcomic's new web video series is also included with a bonus commentary track from Mike "Gabe" Krahulik and Jerry "Tycho" Holkins.

The primary appeal of the $40 set, though, for me at least, are the digitally remastered performances for the music acts that played at PAX: MC Frontalot, Anamanaguchi, Metroid Metal, Paul and Storum, Jonathan Coulton, Freezepop. If you look through the clips on 2PP's Vimeo profile, many of which were taken from the group's Blip Festival DVDs, you'll see these guys really now how to shoot/edit a concert.

You can watch a preview of their live band recordings from PAX in the second half of Penny Arcade: The Series's pilot episode, which features clips of Freezepop's "Plastic Stars" performance, which has the crowd waving around hundreds of mobile phones and Nintendo DSes.
