Real World Turned Virtual: Avatar Machine

Combining a goofy, low-poly outfit and a wearable system to film users as they walks around, Marc Owens created this project as a way to envision the real world as an MMO/virtual world environment, and the users as characters roaming that video game environment.

"Avatar Machine is a system which replicates the aesthetics and visuals of third-person gaming, allowing the user to view themselves as a virtual character in real space via a head mounted interface," explains Owens. "The system potentially allows for a diminished sense of social responsibility, and could lead the user to demonstrate behaviors normally reserved for the gaming environment."

You can see more photos of the avatar costume he created for the project below. In the last image, it looks like he made interchangeable arms, which is pretty neat. The other outfit on the left is actually a Virtual Transgender Suit from another project.
