First Rocket Knight Revival Footage Zooms Out

Konami posted this first trailer for Rocket Knight, its forthcoming PS3/Xbox 360/PC resurrection of the Mega Drive/Genesis series, and it shows that more has changed with Sparkster's look than the game's 2.5D presentation and high definition graphics; the camera is now a more zoomed out from the opossum knight than you'll remember from his adventures in the early 90s.

"We've zoomed the camera out so you can get a better sense of where you're going," Konami producer Tomm Hulett explained to 1UP. "This expanded view is designed to give players a better of view of where they're blasting off to with Sparkster's rocket pack without punishing gamers for taking advantage of the franchise's distinguishing feature."

Other changes include a couple tweaks to how the rocket pack works: players now have a dedicated button to activate it, and Sparkster will only bounce off walls when he hits them at a 45-degree-angle. "In the older games, you always bounced off walls no matter how you hit them. I feel like this new approach really does a lot to prevent that sense of being out of control," says Hulett.

Deveoped by Climax Studios (Silent Hill: Origins, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories), Rocket Knight is expected to release in early 2010.
