As charming as 3D Dot Game Heroes's voxel-based characters and environments look already, the PS3 software also includes an editor to create a unique look for your hero or heroine.

Japanese gaming news website Famitsu posted several screenshots of the editor, showing how it's flexible enough to insert a character as complex as a young warrior with a winged helmet, or as simple as a red cube. I also expect to see players recreate dozens of Marios, Kunios, and other popular 8-bit figures with the tool.

The editor is reminiscent of Q-Block, the online 2D to 3D pixelart application. In fact, someone has already recreated 3D Dot Game Heroes's protagonist with Q-Block!
