Majesco To Publish Passage Developer's DS Game
Jason Rohrer, the developer behind acclaimed indie game Passage and 2009 IGF Innovation Award winner Between, revealed that he's working on a new title for the Nintendo DS. While this won't be Rohrer's first handheld game -- he has put out a couple titles on iPhone -- this project is still a departure from his usual work with free PC releases, as this one has the backing of a major publisher.
"I'm working on a game for the Nintendo DS that will be published by Majesco sometime in 2010," said Rohrer in an interview with Press Pause To Reflect. "It's a two-player strategy game about diamond trading in Angola on the eve of the passage of the Kimberly Process."
The Kimberley Process is a joint governments, industry, and civil society initiative providing a certification process designed to prevent conflict diamonds, or "rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments", from reaching the mainstream diamond market.
Rohrer added, "This is my first game that will be sold in a real box in real stores, so it's an exciting project for me."
