I Got Next To Feature EVO2K9 Footage, Needs Funding
August 7, 2009 10:00 AM | Eric Caoili
Premiered as a free 45-minute documentary last June, I Got Next follows four of the biggest names in the U.S. Street Fighter IV competition scene -- Justin Wong, Ryan "Gootecks" Gutierrez, Joe "iloveu" Ciaramelli and Mike Ross -- over several tournaments, splicing clips from matches with interviews about East and West Coast rivalries, becoming a professional gamer, and other topics relevant to the community.
Director Ian Cofino plans to produce a feature length cut with footage from the recent EVO 2009 tournament in Las Vegas for early next year, but admits that his current hardware is hardly enough to edit the film with, let alone render it.
To generate funding for the project, Cofino posted a Kickstarter page seeking $3,500 in donations by September 15th. To motivate backers, he's offering DVDs of the planned feature-length cut, I Got Next shirts, exclusive downloadable HD versions of the film, and more.
And if you've got money to waste and are looking to break into the Street Fighter IV tournament scene yourself, you can pledge $1,000 and receive one-on-one training with all of the film's stars (one hour with each)! Before you know it, it'll be your name that appears in the next "Epic: Daigo Owns Player X LOL" video passed around in forums and any discussions about fighting games.
You can watch the 45-minute cut at I Got Next's official site.
