As Swedish developer GRIN (Bionic Commando, Terminator: Salvation) announced its closure due to cash flow issues last week, the company's co-founders Bo and Ulf Andersson spoke of an "unreleased masterpiece that [they] weren't allowed to finish", leaving many to wonder what that mystery project could have been.

A recently updated work experience page for one of GRIN's former environment/3D artists reveals a title that could fit that vague description -- an "unannounced Final Fantasy project".

The listing unfortunately doesn't specify any details behind the title, such as its target consoles or how it fits into the Final Fantasy universe (Publisher Square Enix is currently working on at least two new Final Fantasy games, FFXII and FFXIV, intended for the main series).

That same artist posted assets from two unreleased projects that he contributed models and textures to while at GRIN: Fortress and Cult, the latter designed for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

[Update: Superannuation, which uncovered the pages and assets, found another ex-employee's work experience page describing Fortress as a Square Enix production that was in preproduction.]

You can find screenshots taken from the two unreleased projects' environments below and on the artist's site.
