I wouldn't blame you if you've skipped over articles or discussions on Darkest of Days; it's difficult to just read out the entire generic title without falling asleep midway through.

Still, you mustn't dismiss its curious premise -- a time-traveling first-person shooter that has you bringing modern weapons into historical events/battles like Pompeii during Mount Vesuvius's eruption or Custer's Last Stand. It's basically an excuse to mow down musket-carrying Confederate soldiers with an assault rifle at the Battle of Antietam.

Developers 8Monkey Labs and Phantom EFX have released a free PC demo for Darkest of Days through several sites. The game is scheduled to ship for PC and Xbox 360 on September 8, 2009. More videos, including a very entertaining firearms training clip, below:
