COLUMN: 'Game Mag Weaseling': Edge Reviews Gunstar Heroes

['Game Mag Weaseling' is a weekly column by Kevin Gifford which documents the history of video game magazines, from their birth in the early '80s to the current day.]
Instead of the traditional round-up or magazine focus for Game Mag Weaseling, there is just one page I'd like to share with you: the review of Genesis classic Gunstar Heroes, printed in the very first issue of UK magazine Edge, way back in October 1993.
Modern Edge is written a lot better, I promise!
[Kevin Gifford breeds ferrets and runs Magweasel, a site for collectors and fans of old video-game and computer magazines. In his spare time he does writing and translation for lots and lots of publishers and game companies.]

Thanks for posting this! It's so interesting to see the aspects of reviews that have and have not changed over the years. That Mario review on the page was fun to see, too!

I actually enjoyed the reviews and nature of early Edge more than the Edge of today. Perhaps it just matched my expectations and expectations of the time but I think I'm finally willing to let my Edge subscription lapse (I've been a reader since issue 1 and subscribing by mail since issue 50) after 200 issues.
They were wrong about Gunstar Heroes but that's hindsight and Treasure for you.

wow. people complain about contemporary reviews being buyers guides but this is complete unadulterated trash.

I actually posted this very same page in a forum years ago... you can find it and a bunch of other scans in this thread:
