Column: Welcome to the GameSetWatch Comic - 'Welcome to the Street Fighter'

['Welcome to the GameSetWatch Comic' is, once again, a weekly comic by Jonathan "Persona" Kim about the continuing adventures of our society, cultural postdialectic theory, and video games.]
Next up following his intensely deconstructed Metal Gear Sold vs. Mega Man opus, Persona takes on everyone's favorite Street Fighter wall-crawler in his brand new 'Welcome To The...' strip. Yay.

[Jonathan "Persona" Kim is a character animation student at the California Institute of the Arts. When not working on cute low poly models, he continues the Mecha Fetus revolution on the Mecha Fetus Visublog.]

Vega from Street Fighter, like most of the Street Fighters, is a pastiche of several national traits. The "Spanish Ninja" (as he is apparently called) is an amalgamation of the Spanish traits of masculine honor and flamboyancy. He wears a mask to protect his beautiful face, but that is the only part of his body so protected, as his honor implies that he must take mortal risks.
However, what else does that mask represent? Could we not say that his mask is representative of his desire to hide his true, injured personality from his overly-masculinized society? And who else could he confide his secrets in but a Japanese robot--really, the ultimate foreigner or outsider to his Spanish social group?
Persona brings to light all these issues, and does it in the "Churuya 4koma" style popular among Haruhi fandom, to present a message that is clear to geeks everywhere. We are that Megaman, foreign to society but understanding their innermost secrets (before they kill us).
