The Top Ten Game Boy Advance Games?
May 29, 2006 6:02 AM | Simon Carless
Courtesy of the British Gaming Blog, there's a round-up of the top ten Game Boy Advance games ever, which seems oddly relevant at this time in history, as the writer acknowledges: "While many of you will toss your consoles aside and bring in your new DSes and PSPs to play on, there will always be those who do not forget these classic consoles and their games, but honour them."
Of course, the best thing about Game Boy Advance games is that you can play them all on the DS, and the countdown even sports some of the recent GBA titles you might have accidentally skipped, like Game Freak's under-rated Screw Breaker ("a simple play style that was easy to learn, but tough to master.")
What's possibly most interesting is a vaguely controversial overall #1 game - Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga ("mixed traditional Mario platform timing with RPG elements to provide what we think is the best.") So let's open things up to the floor - what's missing from the top ten of all-time Game Boy Advance titles, and what should _really_ be number one?

It's interesting that there are absolutely no third-party games on that list. Did Europe not get Astro Boy, Gunstar Super Heroes or any of the three Castlevanias?

Well first, I'd disagree that the GBA is dead (though I guess I would, given that my company is releasing seven games for it in the latter half of 2006) -- but even if it was, some of these choices are inexplicable.
Metroid Fusion isn't even the best Metroid game on GBA -- it's super-linear and unfriendly to sequence-breaking. Golden Sun is one of the least interesting RPGs on the system; a better choice would have been Mega Man Battle Network (any of them, though you could go for the first or second as a safe choice) or FF Tactics Advance (maybe Tactics Ogre KOL if you're not a Square fan).
I personally think Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow should have been on somewhere, as well as Wario Land 4, which is pretty sadly underrated as a platformer.

The list seems odd Neglecting all the Castlevania games and as previously mentioned Gunstar Super Heroes. I'd also throw Ninja 5-0 and Astroboy in the running.
All of those games are certainly better then Mario vs. Donkey Kong which had a hideous graphic style and pales in comparsion to the game it was made as a sequel to (Donkey Kong '94) .

At the risk of repeating what everyone has said: This list is composed exclusively of Nintendo-published titles. That's pretty myopic.
ALSO: Astro Boy! Astro Boy is my #1 pick for GBA games.
At list the list had the good sense to only include original titles.

Yes, the lack of Ninja Five-O is worrisome, as is the inclusion of Golden Sun.
While I would agree that Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga is the best RPG on the system, I don't know if I would put it at #1.
Then again, were I to do a list like this, I would just pick the top ten and put them in alphabetical order.
