Micro Retro A-Go-Go

microRetro.gifNewish gamesblog Re:Retro reveals that "the world's smallest website," Guimp, has put up more of its adorable tiny clones of vintage arcade games, now including Pong, Pac Man, Asteroids, and Space Invaders.

Each game is boiled down to an 18-pixel square screen, replete with minimal-pixel graphics and clunky sound effects. It's a concentrated dose of nostalgia as well as a design experiment gone horribly well.

If a game reduced to such a tiny size is still fun (and these are), you know the original design was sound. Try shrinking any modern console game to this size and see how much fun it is to play.

cool and very interesting... :P

Aaaargh, my eyes are bleeding!!!!

But fun :)

Put them on an iPod Nano.

Yes, fun indeed.

however I cheated a bit, used Mac OS X's zoom feature...

Haha! This is crazy!

333 Diggs as of writing this, and it made the front page!

It's funny really, I think this was on Digg just a week or so ago...

Thanks for linking me :o) I've put a link on Re:Retro to this site... Take it easy!

Jonic.

Command-option-+ is the way to go, but it's hard to get that cursor out of the way...

just because you can do it doesnt mean you should. cleverness is dead.

Hello! that site is like 4-5 years old

Games are cool - but my cursor kept covering the website ... Only good for a couple of minutes play before it looses its appeal.

I coudnt see the game hardley but it waz fun. I would give it a 2 out of 5 but it was cool.
:)

Dude thats cool ha my eyes are hurting now but still thats cool!!!!!

wow so weird yet so very addicting :)

Pong wonderful pong.... but samller.... its so good

diz is so hard!!...but kinda kull!..jkehjejh

I'LL WRITE BIG SO YOU CAN SEE! THAT WAS FRIGGIN' AWESOME DUDES. THEY SHOULD SELL THAT ON EBAY FOR LIKE 20 BUCKS!

WOW! these games are sooo tiny but theyre SO fun! nice work!

my eyes hurt

Wat is the point of this??? I can't even see as it is!

This is stupied. What's the point of making it so small? Thumbs Down.

Fantastic, love the graphics - who needs next gen.

There's a certain irony in playing one of these micro games on a wide screen monitor at 1680 x 1050 resolution. What's next, dot matrix porn, (circa 1979), on Photoshop sites?

holy impossible. Try playing this on like 1600 x 1200 screen resolution!!

Damn! As if my eyes didn't hurt before...
